Phase 1: Mission design

August 18, 2020

Phase 1 opens

Teams will be able to use the resource hub, a curated collection of virtual resources, as they develop and submit their mission proposals. Any eligible school can form a team and submit — no in-person collaboration or prior experience with CubeSats is required. Use the resource hub to get started.

September 22, 2020

Virtual panel with industry leaders

October 16, 2020

Mission proposal deadline

Teams must have submitted mission proposals by 5:59 p.m. ET for review by a judging panel.

December 2020

Finalist announcement

The judging panel will use Phase 1 selection criteria to select up to five finalists to receive prizes and an invitation to Phase 2.

Phase 2: Mission build and launch

January 2021

Phase 2 opens

Finalists will receive mentorship and additional virtual resources to implement their mission proposals and build their CubeSat prototypes.

By early April 2021

Flight events

Finalists will plan their own flight events, where they will launch their CubeSat prototypes.

Spring 2021

Flight report deadline

Finalists will submit their flight reports, and a judging panel may review the reports to select winners.
